WAITING FOR GOD
Sometimes this foolish notion
I have that one day
God will come and say,
Believe in me, I am.
I fall to wondering
What form he’ll take
Avatar of Vishnu, Allah,
As his son Jesus or dancing Natarajah
Where reside
The birthplace of Ram or Babri beside
Perhaps Churchgate
Or maybe God, by the choices defied
Will choose to come not
After all; and yet
I am still left
Hoping that one day God
Will come and say,
Believe me I am here to stay
Not in such narrow confines;
For my residence I find
I need only the spaciousness
Of an open mind.
